Station Fire Up Close with Digital Camera Zoom |

The LA Station Fire has made the news all across the country because of it’s size. Any fire, which will take weeks to contain, is worth a closer look. I was driving home the other day, as the smoke billowed in the distance. Wanting to capture the event, I pulled over and whipped out the SLR camera. Being the smoke or brush fire I should say is about 15 miles away just visible on the distant hills, the digital camera zoom came in very handy for getting a close shot of the fire. The helicopter and plane engines could be heard in the distance so I waited, digital camera zoom trained on the top of the hill for an appearance of an air drop of water or fire retardant. After about five minutes of nothing happening, I gave up on catching a glimpse of any air drops and turned my attention to the view finder which was zoomed way in on the hillside.
It is really something to see when an entire hillside is burning and the smoke plume is dumping ash miles and miles around in every direction. I thought, this must be sort of what it looks like to see a volcano erupt. I did get a few shots of the smoke and the orange sun, dull enough to look right at because the smoke cover but wasn’t lucky enough to catch a fire department air attack with the SLR camera.
